Dr. Fatih BIROL
Executive Director
International Energy Agency (IEA)

Dr Fatih Birol has served as Executive Director of the IEA since September 2015. He was re‐elected in January 2018 for a second four‐year term, which will begin in September 2019. Under his leadership, the IEA has undertaken its first comprehensive modernisation programme since its creation in 1974. This effort focuses on three pillars: opening the doors of the IEA to include major emerging countries, broadening the IEA's energy security mandate, and making the IEA the global hub for clean energy technologies and energy efficiency. Prior to his nomination as Executive Director, Dr Birol spent over 20 years at the IEA, rising through the ranks to the position of Chief Economist. Dr Birol has been named by Forbes Magazine among the most influential people on the world's energy scene and was recognised by the Financial Times in 2017 as Energy Personality of the Year. He chairs the World Economic Forum's (Davos) Energy Advisory Board and serves on the UN Secretary‐General's Advisory Board on 'Sustainable Energy for All'.

Senator the Hon. Matthew CANAVAN
Minister for Resources and Northern Australia

Matthew grew up in Logan just south of Brisbane. Queensland. After achieving a First Class Honours Degree in Economics at the University of Queensland, Matthew worked at the Productivity Commission where he worked on projects ranging from competition laws, housing affordability and national competition policy. As the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, since 2016, Matthew has passionately advocated for the development of nation building projects in Australia's north and the opening up of new resource basins. The Liberal National government has delivered support for dam projects in North Queensland and the opening up of the coal and gas rich Galilee Basin through the Adani project. The Galilee Basin will be the first coal basin opened in Australia for more than 50 years. Matthew is a former Lions Youth of the Year and worked as a Leader with the Christian Brothers on Edmund Rice Camps, where he met his wife. They now live in Yeppoon near Rockhampton, with their four sons and daughter.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md Hussein was appointed on 30th January 2018, by the command of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di‐Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as the Minister of Energy and Industry. Yang Berhormat Dato was previously the Deputy Minister of Development from 2005‐2010.
Prior to Yang Berhormat Dato's appointment to the civil service, he was a consultant/partner of Konsultan MWH after his retirement from Shell. He was the Deputy MD/Corporate Affairs Director, Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd, MD Brunei Shell Marketing, Director Shell Petroleum Company, London from 1992‐2002. He had full responsibility for human resources and corporate matters including Government liaison. He started his early engineering career with a consultant in London before returning to Brunei. He joined Shell in 1974 as a project engineer for planning, installation and commissioning of offshore structures in the South China Sea for Brunei Shell, Sarawak Shell and Sabah Shell. The largest project he managed was the Fairley‐4 Complex which involved the installation and hook‐up of drilling and gas platforms and accommodation module. He had a number of assignments overseas including as Assistant Area Coordinator based in London and the Hague for East Australasia with responsibilities for exploration and production, concession and production sharing agreements and external affairs.

Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum and Power Division)

Mr. Omar Ayub Khan is a well‐known lawmaker and politician of Pakistan Tehreek‐e‐Insaaf (PTI). He hails from Haripur District in Hazara region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In the general elections of 2018, he was elected as a Member of National Assembly (MNA) from District Haripur (NA 19) and has been elected twice before from this constituency.
Mr. Omar Ayub Khan earned BBA and MBA degrees from George Washington University (USA) in 1993 and 1996 respectively. During the years 2004‐2007, he held the portfolio of Minister of State for Finance in the Federal Cabinet. In 2007 he was selected as one of the Young Global Leaders by the World Economic Forum, Switzerland. In 2015 he was elected as the Chairman Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue, Statistics and Economic Affairs. He is an eminent figure of the Pakistan's political arena and known for his oratory, economic and management skills. Currently, he holds the portfolio of the Minister for Energy (Petroleum and Power Divisions) in the Federal Cabinet.
Mr. Omar Ayub Khan is the son of veteran politician Mr. Gohar Ayub Khan and the grandson of Field Marshal Ayub Khan who was the second President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

He used to be the President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, a Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Can Tho City, and the Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco.

Rikard Gaarder Knutsen was appointed Deputy Minister in the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy on 22 January 2019. He is a representative of the Norwegian Progress Party. He was previously Deputy Minister in the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Earlier he also served as Political Adviser to the Minister of Agriculture and Food, the Minister for Transport and Communications, and to the Progress Party's parliamentary group. Knutsen is a mechanic by profession and is the group leader of the Progress Party in Røyken municipality.

Dr. G. K. Surya PRAKASH
Professor, University of Southern California, USA

Dr. Prakash's research centers on, hydrocarbon, synthetic organic, organosilicon and organofluorine chemistry, with particular emphasis in the areas of energy, catalysis and greenhouse gas abatement. He is a Co‐Proponent of the Methanol Economy Concept based on carbon dioxide capture and recycling. He co‐invented the direct oxidation methanol fuel cell. He has trained more than 125 doctoral and post‐doctoral scholars. He is prolific with more than 800 peerreviewed publications, > 100 patents and 14 books. He has received four American Chemical Society Awards: 2004 Creative Work in Fluorine Chemistry, 2006 George A. Olah Award in Hydrocarbon or Petroleum Chemistry, 2006 Richard C. Tolman Award and 2018 Arthur C. Cope Late Career Scholars Award. He has co‐shared with Olah, the inaugural $1 Million the 2013 Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation by the State of Israel. In 2015, he won the Henri Moissan International Prize for excellence in Fluorine Chemistry. He is a Fellow many national and international academies.

Ing. Peter Van OS

The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), The Netherlands

Peter van Os (MSc) holds a position as a Senior Project Manager at Netherlands Organisation for applied scientific research TNO (TNO) on various projects concerning Gas Treatment with focus on CO2 capture and utilisation. He is internationally oriented with EU projects as well as (joint) Industry Projects. The customers include national and international companies and SME's. He was coordinator of the CESAR project on the development of post combustion capture processes and has been a work package leader in it's successor projects OCTAVIUS and HiPerCap. This train of projects have made a valuable contribution to the development and demonstration of post combustion CO2 capture. He is currently the coordinator of a large full chain CCUS project in Europe that is called ALIGN‐CCUS. In this project, with 30 partners and an operating budget of more then 22 million Euro, we work on the full CCUS chain: Capture, Transport, Storage, Utilisation and Social Acceptance. The goal is to develop blue prints for decarbonising of industrial clusters.

Mr. Steven WINBERG

As Assistant Secretary, Steven Winberg is responsible for the management and oversight of the Office of Fossil Energy's research and development program, encompassing coal, oil, and natural gas, as well as the Office of Petroleum Reserves.
Mr. Winberg has 39 years of experience in the energy industry. He began his career at the engineering firm Foster Wheeler as an engineer on coalfired utility boilers. From there, he spent 14 years with Consolidated Natural Gas working in a variety of positions before becoming Vice President for CONSOL Energy Research & Development. Immediately prior to coming to DOE, Mr. Winberg served as a Senior Program Manager at Battelle Memorial Institute.

Ms. Mallika Nanduri BHATT

Mallika Nanduri Bhatt is the Director General of Policy and Planning for Innovation and Energy Technology at Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Her team advances Government‐wide initiatives to support clean technology and energy innovation, and operates the Clean Growth Hub ‐ a whole‐of‐government focal point for clean technology focused on helping stakeholders navigate federal supports.

Mallika began her career at NRCan working in the Office of Energy Efficiency, as an economist. In late 2007, she took on the role of Senior Policy Advisor to the Deputy Minister, gaining a broad perspective on the full spectrum of Canadian natural resource issues. She also spent several years at Environment and Climate Change Canada, where she held senior positions managing key partnerships and working on environmental policy issues such as conservation and climate change adaptation. She also served as Chief Results and Delivery Officer for the department, prior to re‐joining NRCan.

Mallika holds a Master of Natural Resource Management from Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, British Columbia) and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Concordia University (Montreal, Quebec).

Based on his previous work in the board of Hydrogen Europe and the FCH‐JU governing board in Brussels, Belgium, he is well connected within the hydrogen and fuel cell industry in Europe.
Mr. Froemmel works for Sunfire GmbH in Germany as VP Sales & Marketing. In this position, Mr. Froemmel is responsible for the global coordination of sales processes including business development, marketing, sales and customer relationship management. Sunfire develops and manufactures steam electrolysers (SOEC) for production of renewable hydrogen and synthetic fuels.
Mr. Froemmel is also General Manager of Sunfire Fuel Cells GmbH, a company developing and manufacturing high temperature fuel cells (SOFC).
Mr. Froemmel was born in 1961. He received a degree in electronics‐technology and precision engineering from the University of Technology Dresden in 1988 and a diploma in Business Administration and Economics in 1996.

Selected as one of the Top 50 Brightest Young Climate Leaders, he was a part of the youth delegation to COP15 and COP/MOP5 (Kyoto Protocol), held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in the fall of 2009 (December 7th to 18th). He has also been selected as one of the top 27 entrepreneurs working on accelerated commercialization of Technology & Innovation by Accelerator India. Fareed ALASALY is a Senior Advisor to the Minister of Energy. Fareed is the lead negotiator for the Saudi Arabia on G20 energy and climate issues and a team member for the G20 Global forum on Steel Excess Capacity as well as Trade and Investment.
Fareed was a member of the Kingdom delegation for the accession of Saudi Arabia to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and continues to lead energy, industry, environmental and trade remedy issues with the WTO. He also is a member of the Saudi team on climate change issues and Led the Saudi team in instituting Carbon Capture and Storage Technology under the climate change process in 2005. In addition, he is a member of the Saudi Designated National Authority for clean development mechanism projects. Fareed worked with Saudi Aramco for the period 1979‐1997 as a Corporate Advisor and Senior Planning Consultant on International Energy Policies and Regulations in Corporate Planning. Furthermore, Fareed worked in various aspects of the company including: finance, investment portfolio management, local development, planning operations and logistics of the oil industry, as well as materials supply management.
